Retellings, 2024, 6:17, video art

Retellings revisits stories of the artist’s heritage through a baseball - a family memento, dissecting it as a metaphor for taking time to break those stories down into parts, reexamine them, and contemplate their veracity. Those parts are reassembled and transformed anew into jacket patches, worn with honor in a way now more aligned with the artist’s truth. Retreats to the wild for mountain mediations - a place to contemplate and soothe oneself in the process - are interspersed throughout the video. Retellings is part of an ongoing series, including Unmasked exploring unprocessed stories that make up the artist’s self identity.

Unmasking, 2025, 6:59, video art

In Unmasking, the artist uses stones as metaphor for the weightiness of self concepts. Captured, and collected in the mind, these self concepts are grappled with, with the weightiness of them ultimately taking hold before they’re cut free to reveal their true fragility. Retreats to view monumental stones amongst the sea serve as a meditative reassurance that despite unsettled, chaotic waters, the enduring stoicism of the individual persists. Unmasked is part of an ongoing series, including Retellings exploring unprocessed stories that make up the artist’s self identity.
